LSTN, a Hollywood-based company manufacturing headphones, has teamed up with the Starkey Hearing Foundation to help provide hearing aids to people in need.
According to a report published in Forbes.com, LSTN produces a vintage-inspired line of high-quality headphones with a sleek wooden design, full bass, and excellent sound. But as a social enterprise, the company is also impact focused and has launched an initiative to couple its development with a philanthropic project.
“LSTN was founded to change lives through the power of music,” says company co-founder, Bridget Hilton. After watching a video online in which a woman was able to hear for the first time, Hilton realized how different her own life would have been without music. “I did some research and found there are 360 million people with disabling hearing loss. Most of them are in developing countries and can be helped with just hearing aids. Music is so important - it shouldn’t be something that is dependent on status, age or location. I had to do something to help.”
This was the start of the project whereby the company helps provide hearing aids for every pair of headphones sold. So far, more than 20,000 people have been fitted with hearing aids through LSTN’s partnership with Starkey, in countries including the USA, China, Peru, Uganda, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. The company has solid sales and their headphones are available on their website and at several large consumer electronics stores in the US. The company plans to expand distribution worldwide.
